The Youth of Professional Poker
Back in the day, poker used to be something else. If you look in the hall of fame for poker, you will find that many of them back then were a tad bit older. However, things have changed. According to casinos around the world and many more places where poker is the big game, poker is becoming quite popular among those who are in their twenties.
When you look at this year’s November Nine, you will see what we mean. Half of the final eight that are left at the poker table are some young ones who are only in their twenties and have won big. This is crazy some think.
There are many who think that these kids as they call them should be in college. They should be starting a family and getting into a good career. This is even though the men and women who think this do the same thing. They have made a passion of this; a career of this. Some wonder as to who they are to judge. However, there are plenty more who find that this is something that can help these men and women who are young.
The winnings that they earn can be used for things such as student loans and more. There are many reasons that a twenty something year old might want to go and learn to play professional poker. When you do this, you will find that if you get good enough at it and start earning big, you have some money to sit on and use for a rainy day.
Right now, to date, the youngest poker player for the World Series of Poker was in the year 2009. At twenty one years old, Joe Cada of Full Tilt Poker fame had won the World Series of Poker. Before that, the age was in 2008 at age twenty two years by Peter Eastgate.
While some might say that there are some disadvantages, there are many who say that being that young has some major advantages when you are playing poker. Your eyes and your mind are sharper. Normally, these “kids” as they are referred to at the tables by older pros will tell you that the video games and online games they play have helped them as well.
While many thought it was just a trend that was going to be short lived by having some twenty something year olds playing the game and winning the pot is no longer the case. It’s not a trend that is going to go anywhere anytime soon. That is one thing they can honestly say. For many, they are telling other poker players that you had better get used to seeing the younger generation as they are sweeping the tables clean when they come to play. It just adds that more fun to the game and we look forward to seeing what they have to offer.
For some of them, this is just a game. Others have made this their career and have given up other things. They have proved to be good at what they do. So be looking for these “kids” when you watch these games. You might be the next “kid” yourself.
