Poker Hand Ranking
Poker Hand Ranking – What are the Main Rules
The object of the game of poker is to be able to get the highest possible card combination to win the pot. This is done by combining the cards the player has been dealt with along with the community cards that are dealt in the middle of the table. Here are the different poker hand combinations from the highest ranking to the lowest.
Royal Flush
This is the highest possible poker hand combination. This is comprised of the five highest card values – ten, jack, queen, king and ace – all in the same suit. When two players both have a royal flush, the pot is split between the two of them and it is considered as a tie since the ranking of the suits do not count in a royal flush.
Straight Flush
A straight flush is comprised of five consecutive numerical cards made up of the same suit. If there are two or more players that have a straight flush in their hand, the winner is determined by the following:
* The player with the highest ending numerical card
* The player with the higher suit. The ranking of the suits in poker has clubs as suit with the lowest ranking followed by spades, hearts and then diamonds having the highest suit
Four of a Kind
As the Ultimate Bet term implies, this poker hand combination is comprised of four cards of the same value, with any card as its kicker to make five cards. In this kind of hand, the player with the higher value on the four cards is considered as the winner, not the kicker card.
Full House
A full house is made up of three cards of the same kind and two cards of the same kind. Just like in the case of the four of a kind, when determining between two players with a full house hand who is the winner, the player with the higher value on the three cards of the same kind is the winner of the entire pot.
Flush
A flush is a PKR download poker hand combination where the player has five cards, not necessarily in consecutive numerical order, with the same suit. Because the suit is the most important factor here in this combination, determining the winner of the pot between two players with a flush is on the ranking of the suits. The highest suit is diamonds, followed by hearts, then spades, and then clubs, which is the lowest of the four suits.
Straight
A straight is comprised of five cards in consecutive, numerical order without necessarily having the same suits. If there are two or more players with a straight, the player with the highest ending numerical value wins.
Three of a Kind
A three of a kind is comprised of three cards of the same value. As with most of the different poker hand combinations, the player with the higher value wins in the event that two or more players have a three of a kind combination.
Two Pair
Just like the name of this combination says, this poker hand combination is made out of two different pairs of cards with the same value. If there are two or more players that have two pairs, the player with the highest pair values win. However, there are instances wherein two players may have exactly the same two pair values. When this happens, the suits of the cards are taken into consideration, and the player with the higher suits wins.
Pair
A pair is one of the most common hands in poker, but also one of the weakest. It is comprised of having two cards of the same value.
