For those of you that are familiar with the thriller "The Big Town" you will have seen this dice game being played out, as it is in private American gambling. Each player tries to roll the winning combination made up between the two dice. This player is called the shooter, and there is no set limit on how many can play.

The shooter puts his stake down before he throws and the other players in the dice game bet against the shooter attaining a winning combination up to the amount of the shooters stake, they what we call "fade it" or you could think of it as phasing out the shooters stake. Any part of the shooters stake that has not been claimed or faded, must be withdrawn by the shooter. He may continue to bet how much he wishes, as long as he wins. He can however give up the dice if he wishes. The others at the table get to take double their fade should the shooter be unsuccessful and lose. Interestingly, the others can actually bet with each other over the shooters ability to either lose or win, or even throw certain combinations or numbers during his next series of throws.

This dice game originates back in the 14th century coming from the gambling rooms of England.

The stake is set by the banker and the player throwing the dice calls for a number between 5 and 9. To win he must throw in or nick. The nick sequence is as follows: 5 nicks 5, 6 nicks 6 or 12, 7 is nicked by 7 or 11, 8 is nicked by 8 or 12, and 9 is nicked by 9. When the player throws craps by throwing deuce ace or aces, he loses the stake and throws out. There is more than one way that he can throw out too. There are pre-determined odds which specify exactly how much the banker or setter pays the winner, like with any bookmaker, it is always more than the original amount staked. The player plays against another player in English Hazard, however in the French derivative, the player or the caster, plays against the house.
